Choose Your Own: Tattoos

For spring break I am staying home for most of the week. Over winter break I was working my second job at Shoe Carnival and was pretty busy. I am so forward to spending time with my family. Even though I live in town, so I could technically go home whenever I wanted, but I haven’t gone home once this semester. I have never really been close to my family, but ever since I started college my relationship with my parents has gotten much stronger. In October I got a tattoo saying “Love and be loved” The meaning behind it is that if I give more love and respect to my parents, then in return I will get more love and the same respect. I showed my parents over thanksgiving break and they loved it. I eventually want to get an anchor on my foot. The meaning of the anchor would be a reminder that you need to be strong for yourself and strong for others when they need you. Also an anchor is reliable, safe, and unchanging. It keeps ships and people grounded and constant. Neither of my parents have tattoos but I think that is because their generation wasn’t much into them like ours is today. My brother is 23 and said he has wanted one before but doesn’t know exactly what he would get. I hate when people get meaningless tattoos. It’s just dumb and honestly gross. I really don’t like when people also get their name as a tattoo. It seems like more guys get their last name more than girls do. I just don’t see a point in it..but hey that is just my opinion. I’m not a big fan of colored tattoos as well; they just look nasty after they have been faded. Tattoos are a great thing if you get something that is significant to you.

  1. That is awesome. I love your tattoo ideas and I have been thinking about getting one or more as well! I just saw my roommate get hers done and it was awesome. Idk if i can do the pain though, that's the only thing that is stopping me.. :/

  2. I agree with the meaningless tattoos, I mean my dad has 2 and my mom just got one last summer. I am hopefully getting mine soon, I am so excited. I like the idea of the anchor too.

  3. I love your tattoo ideas. At first I did not like tattoo's because I felt they all were pointless, but I slowly grew to like them. I have only one tattoo and it was a spur of the moment thing. I really dont have a meaning for my tattoo, I just thought it looked nice. The diiference between my tattoo and some other people's random tattoo is I got something basic, a flower. Most people get out of control things that just look terrible, but mines is just a simple flower.

  4. I agree that it is dumb when people get meaningless tattoos. It is so much better when they are special and have meaning or a story behind them. I really like the anchor idea because it is something you can always look at to remind you to stay grounded. I don't have any tatoos but have always wanted one, just don't have something special picked out yet.

  5. I also want a tattoo and I agree about the stupid ones. Do people forget their name and have to look at the tattoo to remember what it is or something? I don't have anymore time to write so good luck with everything!

  6. I am really impressed with your tattoo ideas and meanings. The anchor is a wonderful metaphor!

I have one tattoo and it took me 26 years to get (because I am so picky and I wanted to make sure I really wanted it!)

I also agree that such "permanent" body markers should be meaningful and planned because there are some awful tattoos. My favorite though, is when they are words that are misspelled.
